Thing #23

I wasn't sure I was going to be able to do this but I wanted to try. I am vey glad I did.
Some of the "Things" I had heard of but knew very little about them.

Patrons of the library, mother and son, came in one afternoon and, as they were looking for books, asked me if I knew that I could go to YouTube and listen to Christmas music. I asked the mother how to do it and she had her son come over by my desk and show me. What a thrill to have that young man show this librarian "how to." Best Christmas present I could receive. Anyway, when it came time to do Thing #21-You too can YouTube I had somewhat of an idea of what YouTube was, thanks to that young man.

I enjoyed being able to stay here and not have to travel to take this online learning program, especially with weather conditions this time of year. It was also very helpful to me that it was free and I could work as my time allowed.

Some of my favorite discoveries-exercises were: Flickr, SlideShare, LibraryThing, Image Generators. I especially enjoyed Flickr and how to organize my photos. I plan on going back and reviewing some of the various areas again as time permits.

We learn something new every day. And we must keep learning to help our patrons out as well as ourselves with technology.

I think you did a great job with this program's format/concept. Thanks to everyone who put the Nebraska Learns 2.0 online learning program together to enable us to learn more about technologies on the web.

I would be very interested in participating in another discovery program if it were offered.

Thing #22

This was something new to me. It took awhile to figure it out, but I think I did it. There are alot of different podcasts on just about anything you can imagine. I added YALSA feed to my bloglines. It will be useful when working with the young adults in the community.

Thing #21

I was a little confused with the instructions on how to embed the video into my blog. Hopefully this works. I will need to do some extra practicing when I have more time.

I chose this video because I love to see accomplishments. This was truly one big accomplishment. Not to mention also that I love Nebraska football. "Go Big Red!"

This YouTube site would be very useful with the summer reading program. It would give us an opportunity to video the different activities and then place them on YouTube for others to view.

Thing #20

I viewed Biblio.com, a tool that searches for out-of-print books. This would be a very good source to find books that need to be replaced but could not be found in local book stores.
I liked the user-friendly format and was able to locate several books at a reasonable price by one of my favorite authors. I was unable to find the books at any other source without having to pay a great deal for them.

Thing #19

This may be a useful feature for students especially when they are traveling from one place to another. Personally, I think I would rather use a USB drive instead of relying on a website. I uploaded a few documents into my account and it was rather easy. This may be a helpful feature if you do not have your USB drive with you.

Thing #18

This was fun and I am sure something I will use more often. I enjoyed looking at some of the other "Favorites."

Thing #17

The initial idea of the wiki is good but people need to remember that anyone may go in and change the information so it may not be accurate.
I can see our library using it for book reviews, summer reading programs, and other events.

Thing #16

I was completely overwhelmed when I read these articles.
As I observe and help students I realize more and more how important it is to keep up with technology. Libraries have to keep current with technology in order for the patrons to gain the access that they need.
My joy is holding a book and reading. With all of the new and ever increasing technology I hope it never comes to the time when we will hear "I remember when I held a book and read it."

Thing #15

Enjoyed looking at the slideshows. I kept getting an error message when viewing the slideshows which was frustrating. I did finally get it to work.
Here is my SlideShare account.

Thing #14

The video was very helpful. Having all of my bookmarks in one place using Delicious is great. I like being able to get to my bookmarks from any computer. It would be very beneficial to add a Delicious account to our library site. I think it will be very useful not only for me but for the library as well.

Thing #13

It would be an easy way for librarians to keep in touch, but I'm not sure how useful it would be for me.
